Happy New Year from the Austin Craft Mafia!! We know, we know. We never write, we never call. Holy majoly though, have we been busy! Here's the skinny on what we've been up to:

Group Stuff Have you seen the current issue of Craft Magazine? In it there's an article featuring the Craft Mafia. Oh and speaking of Craft Mafia(s), take a look at our ever-expanding list of sister groups popping up internationally! In other news, last November Stitch Fashion Show and Guerilla Craft Bazaar presented two very deserving craftspeople, and Stitch participants, with the first annual Stitch grant. The decision was very difficult with all of the fantastic applications that we received. Winners were chosen based on their craftsmanship, business sense and future plans for their business. The first place recipient of the Stitch grant went to Freshie and Zero. The second place grant went to Austin's own Vinca. Interested in applying for next year's Stitch grant? Well, information about 2007 will be up in a few months, but for now, you can study up and prepare for next year's grant application! Individual Company News Naughty Secretary Club Wowsers there is a new season of Jen P's show CRAFT LAB LAB airing over at HGTV. Check out episodes weekdays at 9am Central. Oh and you can still catch season 1 over at DIY Network at 11am. There are new and exciting goodies being added to Naughty Secretary Club almost weekly! This week alone there is a new stash of Barkcloth Purses, Revamped Vintage Earrings and Nostalgic Notions Bracelets! Watch Craft Lab everyday on DIY Network & HGTV!

Sublime Stitching Jenny has a new Sublime Stitching project in a just-released book called "Making Stuff: An Alternative Craft Book" from Black Dog Publishing (UK). Check out the unicorn-embroidered satin bomber jacket on page 41!

Vickie Howell Knitty Gritty: Knitty Gritty is now not only on daily on DIY but also on HGTV! Tune in weekdays at 11am/10amCT. This just in, new epsiodes from Season 6 will air daily for the first 3 weeks in February. See Vickie's Blog for a complete list of shows (and all kinds up up to the minute news). Don't forget though, Knitty Gritty is only on HGTV for a limited time. If you don't have it already, make sure you call your cable provider and demand, "I want my DIY!", so you don't miss out on upcoming seasons!

New Book: Knitty Gritty Knits, a compilation of kick-ass projects from the first 3 seasons of Knitty Gritty, has hit shelves. Starting this weekend, Vickie will begin a 13 city tour! From Anaheim, CA to Boston, MA, she will be visiting yarn stores and Barnes & Nobles accross the country. New Yarn Line: Vickie has joined forces with the amazing SWTC to produce her very own yarn line! Austin Craft Mafia Early Fall Newsletter!

Well hello there, Mon Craftitain(s)! It's almost offically Autumn and us girls from the Austin Craft Mafia are FALLing head over platforms for new fashions! To prove it, we've done a 5-page photo spread for Jewell Magazine spoofing our shadier side but showing that even in the darkest of times, one can still be fabulously dressed. Amet and Sasha just turned 4!!!! What does that mean for you aside from a reason to run out and buy yourself a cupcake (yes, you should all go do that to help us celebrate!)? A ton of new items and a sale of course! All throughout the month of September you'll find various goodies on sale, some soon to be discontinued, some not. But get your butt over there because the sale ends on September 30!

Sublime Stitching's Jenny Hart, interviews Anna Sui for the Venus Magazine Cover Article! In it they chatted about DIY culture, all thing embroidered and what it was like to be in the center of punk's heyday: NYC in the 70's. Reallyn though, Jenny just wanted to ask Ms. Sui about all the embroidery and cross-stitching she covers her clothing with, where the inspiration comes from and stuff like that.

Wondering about the release of Jenny's new book, Sublime Stitching: Hundreds of Hip Patterns and How-To? Here's the deal: It appeared in stores earlier than expected but it'll be released officially on her site next month with much fanfare. If you order copies directly from her, they come signed- of course! But you don't have to wait for her, get yourself a copy any way you can! We *heart* Ms. Hart!

While Jenny was off interviewing Ana, Vickie Howell went to New York to interview another runway designer, Isaac Mizrahi! Get the scoop on Isaac's knitty little secrets in the "TV Issue" of Knit.1 Magazine, on stands now!

In other written news, Vickie just finished the manuscript for her 3rd book! Keep an eye out in 2007 when Knit Aid: A How-To Helper for the Knitter on the Go, hits shelves!

If you're in the Austin area, come take a knitting class from Vickie at Hill Country Weavers! There's less than 6 weeks left until Halloween so it's about that time to start thinking about kiddie costume prep! She'll be teaching a 2-day workshop on the Wizard & Princess hats from New Knits on the Block that begins on September 26th. The class will cover knitting in the round (using circulars and double-pointed needles), basic shaping, machine felting and optional needle felting. Come with your own supplies or buy pre-made kits at the shop-either way, the child in your life will end-up with a royal head-topper, that looks magically delicious! Oh and high schoolers, she'll be teaching a beginning class for teens in October featuring Not Another Teen Knitting Book's B/F/F wristbands! Naughty Secretary Club's Jennifer Perkins has gone off and gotten herself her very own TV show! Craft Lab debuts on the DIY Network at 1:30ET/12:30CT/10:30PT on September 25th and airs daily. Record it, watch it, heck, even throw a party for it. Trust us, you'll love this show! Oh, and while you're setting your Tivo's, don't forget to add Monday morning's new episodes and of Knitty Gritty and Tuesday & Thursday repeats of Stylelicious to the list!

Holy moly, are we excited--several of us mafiosa chicks are currently en route to the Big Apple! Why? Well, because we heart NY, of course! Duh. The icing on the cake however, is that the Renegade Craft Fair is happening in Brooklyn this weekend and Austin Craft Mafia (http://www.austincraftmafia.com) will have our very own booth there, that promises to be bursting with great merchanDIYse!

Tina Sparkles (http://www.sparklecraft.com) has stuffed her suitcase with 30 new dresses and loads of great belts and guitar straps. Jennifer Perkins (http://www.naughtysecretaryclub.com) will be debuting her new t-shirts and has been working for a solid month on making gobs of new jewelry just for the fair, while Hope Perkins (http://www.hotpinkpistol.com), will have your painted purse needs covered! Thanks to all of you who supported the mafia’s efforts to help fight the good fight against breast cancer. We raised $1,135 for the cause. Hooray!

It’s that time again for the third annual STITCH Fashion Show & Guerilla Craft Fair, brought to you by ACM’s very own Jesse Kelly-Landes, Tina Sparkles, Karly Hand and Jennifer Perkins. With 70 vendors and
20 runway designers (including the ladies from All Dressed Up and Shy and Hot Pink Pistol), this year’s show promises to be even bigger and better than last year! They have designers and vendors from all over
the country this year, including members of the Dallas, Houston, Orlando and New Orleans Craft Mafias. Music will be provided by Austin favorites DJ Mel featuring the Boom Chica Boom dancers and Bellaire, not to mention a slew of other DJs to shake your booty to all night long. You won’t wanna miss it so be sure to mark your calendars for November 13th at Emo’s. Doors open at 7 PM for happy hour drink prices, the show starts at 10:30 PM. WE BE STYLIN'
After months of planning, cutting, sewing, gluing, drilling, writing, shopping, painting and prepping, we finally flew out to Los Angeles to shoot 39 episodes of our new TV show, STYLELICIOUS. It was a lot of hard work, but a fantastic experience that resulted in a project that we’re all super proud of. We can’t wait for you to see it! It’s scheduled to air next spring but it’s never too early to jump on over to http://www.diynetwork.com to see if your cable company carries DIY. CUCKOO for CRAFT MAFIA
